If you’re looking to whip up something mouth-watering in a moment, opt for a hand blender–the smaller, more portable alternative to a blender. Unlike mini-choppers or processors, this type of blending favours foods with a higher water content and so is ideal for fixing soups, sauces, milkshakes and smoothies and tackling softer foods like fruits and vegetables. The Breville VHB061 is a three-in-one blender set. The blender has a detachable leg, also known as the head, which is dishwasher-safe a

Good but irritating flaw,
I bought this to replace a Braun Multiquick which I loved – and loved the various attachments too. I managed to ruin it by attaching the head to one of the mini food processor inaccurately and shearing the (plastic) connecting bit.
The Breville although slightly fussier in its design seemed to address the connection problem with a much more well thought out arrangement and the motor is powerful and quiet. I thought I had found the perfect replacement. After a couple of weeks though I have found the blades are already not quite as sharp as they were (I use it mostly for making smoothies or soup – nothing hard!) and looking closely the blade is not as well designed as the Braun, but most irritatingly the seal that is supposed to stop liquids getting up inside the stick of the blender from around the blade is inadequate. Despite always cleaning the attachment immediately after use by blending in clean hot water, there is a very worrying oozy brown gunge that leaks from around this seal and no amount of cleaning can get rid of it!
With reluctance I am considering sending it back.

|Excellent quality kit!,
The first thing which struck me about this hand blender was its excellent build quality. Solid & weighty with rubberised grips to stop it slipping from wet hands, the VHB061 is a pleasure to hold. It’s also a pleasure to use, performing all 3 of its task brilliantly – that’s chopping, whisking & blending. This is no doubt thanks to its incredibly powerful 800W motor. Also, changing the various attachments was quick & easy. Despite being much smaller than a conventional blender, this is one kitchen gadget which does exactly what it claims – and does it well.
It’s not the cheapest blender out there, although its RRP is £25 lower than a Philips 700W handheld, making it competitive for its class. Besides, it’s such good quality kit that once you get this bad boy out of the box & start using it, it’s immediately clear that it’s worth the extra money. Highly recommended if you don’t have much room & want to ease those otherwise wrist-straining, boring jobs!

|Quality 3 in 1 Blender,
This 3 in 1 hand blender is nothing short of superb. It’s a solid, well made product with the handle, which also houses the engine, weighing in at a hefty 1.5Kg. Comprising of blending, chopping and whisking components, a chopping bowl and a whisking beaker it represents excellent value for money. It has a two speed setting switch and a press-down on/off switch which are within easy reach on the rubberised and easy to grip handle. It’s very powerful even on the lower speed setting and all the inter-changeable parts are easy to change. It should be borne in mind that it is a hand blender and does not have the capacity of a food processor – if you’re cooking for a family of eight then this will probably not suffice.
So, what can it do? The chopper has very sharp blades and, from my experience, it can easily handle onions, carrots, garlic, bread, bananas, tomatoes etc, quickly chopping them into very fine pieces. I’ve used the blender when making a couple of soups (tomato and broccoli & cauliflower) and it produces a smooth and evenly blended purée with ease and it’s ideal for smoothies. I’ve only used the whisk with eggs and advise that the deep beaker be used for this – it alleviates the potential problem of the mix taking flight out of a standard bowl…
In summary, this is a quality and value for money addition to the kitchen.
